Zomorod is tired of being the new, weird, foreign girl at school where the only thing students know about Iran, her homeland, is that people ride camels there. In order to help herself fit in, she decides to call herself Cindy. She spends all summer at the pool tanning and listening to her neighbor talk about her horse. Finding friends with similar goals and interests helps Cindy start to feel like she belongs, but when Iran goes through a revolution and a group of protesters take Americans hostage, Cindy and her parents become targets in their community. Will Cindy be able to stay in America? Will the cute boy pet sitter help her figure out who is sending disturbing messages to her home? Will she ever get her puka-shell necklace?
