Annabelle's life has been peaceful until a new student, Betty, moves to her small town. Betty is a cruel and dangerous bully who soon begins to target Toby, a reclusive World War I veteran, after he stands up for and protects Annabelle. When Betty disappears, the town suspects that Toby has kidnapped and possibly killed her. Annabelle decides to lie about what she knows, and there are dangerous consequences.
